PERAMA YEROPOTAMOU

It is located on the east side of Rethymno,on the 24th klm of the old road which connects Rethymno to Heraklion. It is built on the left coast of Avlopotamos. A lot of years ago there was a pass in the place of the today’s bridge which linked the village with Melidoni and Panormo.

In History…

The most savage Turkish people lived in Perama. It was the place where they lurked for passing Christians whom they robbed and tortured before killing them. That explains the name of the area, since “Perama” means passage in Greek.
